These AHA courses are open to all healthcare providers and students in the community and within Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC).

 

CCHMC employees who are required to hold these certifications may have course fees waived by using the promo code during registration. Please check with your primary department if you are unsure.

 

CCHMC employees not required to hold these certifications may take the course and pay with a credit card or have the fees cross-charged to their primary department.

 

Participants should only enroll in one AHA route, either a traditional course at the Simulation Center or through the RQI program. If enrolled in both, their department will be charged for the course at the Simulation Center.

 

CCHMC employees can not register more than 6 months prior to their expiratoin date. If you would like to renew earlier than this, please reach out to the Simulation Center. Departments will be charged for early renewals. 

 

**The Simulation Center is no longer distributing physical PALS and ACLS Reference Cards. A PDF copy of the 2025 ACLS and PALS Reference Card is included below for your reference. We are currently updating the CCHMC website and crash carts to reflect the 2025  science updates and expect this process to be completed by the end of March.**

Pediatric Advanced Life Support

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) is sponsored by the American Heart Association and follows a hybrid learning model. Learners complete a self-directed online module (4-6 hours) and then attend a skill testing session at the Center for Simulation & Research.

 

**The Simulation Center is no longer distributing physical PALS Reference Cards. A PDF copy of the 2025 PALS Reference Card is included below for your reference. We are currently updating the CCHMC website and crash carts to reflect the 2025  science updates and expect this process to be completed by the end of March.**

The course is designed for healthcare providers to manage respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies in pediatric patients. There is no longer a distinction between initial certification and renewal courses.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Course

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) is sponsored by the American Heart Association and follows a hybrid learning model. Learners complete a self-directed online module (4-6 hours) and then attend a skill testing session at the Center for Simulation & Research.

Combo Course: Both PALS & ACLS

 

The Combo course consists of PALS and ACLS.

 

This Combo Course is intended for participants who have previously completed and passed the separate PALS and ACLS class. This is not recommended for participants who are new to PALS or ACLS certification. However, this is ultimately up to the participant and their department.

 

Combo Courses (PALS and ACLS) given at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) are sponsored by the American Heart Association. CCHMC offers PALS and ACLS using a hybrid learning model. The majority of the learning is a self-directed online module. The skills portion will build on core concepts based on the AHA fundamentals, followed by skills testing at the Center for Simulation & Research in the Vernon Place Building.The learner may stop and start the online modules at their discretion.  Estimated time to complete each online module is about 4-6 hours. The learner then attends the skills testing portion at the scheduled location and time. Within 24 hours of passing, an electronic provider card will be issued to the email used in registration.

PALS must stay selected as "yes". 

 

Per CCHMC CPR Certification Policy, staff who hold a current PALS AND ACLS cards are not required to recertifiy their BLS.

 

However, if you need BLS with your Combo course, please email the simulationcenter@cchmc.org to obtain a Heartcode BLS link to complete in addition to the PALS and ACLS.

 

For CCHMC pediatric residents in a combined residency program that rotates at UC, BLS is required.  You will receive your assigned BLS link in a separate email from the simulation center.

 

Heartcode BLS Course - Liberty Campus

HeartCode BLS

Basic Life Support (BLS) courses given by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) are sponsored by the American Heart Association. These course train participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED.

 

**HeartCode BLS - Liberty Campus Course are for 

CCHMC Physicians and Liberty Staff ONLY**

 

 **For those that don't meet this criteria your primary department will be charged $30.00 for the Heartcode.**

 

HeartCode BLS is a hybrid learning model. Majority of the learning is a self-directed online module, through the American Heart Association website, and can be accessed by logging in from any computer.

The learner may stop and start learning at their discretion.  Estimated time to complete computer module is one hour. The learner then attends the skills testing portion at the scheduled location and time with an AHA instructor for BLS completion.  Within 24 hours and passing all BLS portions, and electronic provider card will be issued to the email used in registration.

Advisor: BLS is to accommodate students who cannot perform the physical skills of CPR.  The learner will complete the cognitive portion (assigned upon registration self-directed online module).  Then attend the skills session and advise others how to perform CPR and use an AED.  Upon successful completion of both portions, an electronic provider card will be issued to the email used in registration within 24 hours. If you are needing Advisor BLS, please select "Yes" to this question when registering for a Heartcode BLS course.
